In Somebody Like You by Heatherly Bell, Brooke Miller’s life is turned upside down in one fateful night. Instead of the promotion she was hoping for, Brooke loses her job, her boyfriend, and is rumored to have had a breakdown after she makes a scene at a celebration. With nothing left to lose, Brooke decides to buy a local vineyard. Unfortunately for Brooke, the retired baseball player, Billy Turlock, purchases it first. Brooke has extensive experience in the business, so Billy hires her on as the general manager. Billy’s jock status is a thorn in Brooke’s side, but it was the kiss they shared so long ago that continues to haunt her. Now Brooke must find a way to maintain her professional relationship with Billy when what she really wants is to give in to her mounting desire for him.
Somebody Like You by Heatherly Bell was a fun romance with plenty of sub-plots to keep the story exciting. All of the characters were well written and developed, and I absolutely loved Billy and Brooke’s mothers and Billy’s grandfather. The minor characters added depth and realism to the story. The descriptions of the wine and the vineyard were well done; I know nothing about wine, but I never felt confused about it throughout the story. The story was light and it was a fun read that I did not want to put down. I was compelled to keep reading so I could see how things turned out for all of the characters, including the minor ones, because I truly cared about all of them. I found myself engrossed in this book, and I would definitely recommend reading it.
