Author Biography

Mike J. Krentz draws on a 20-year career as a Navy physician to write military thrillers. From real-life immersion with courageous yet sometimes flawed warriors in ships, air wings, and fleets deployed around the world, he portrays the human dramas that challenge military men and women -- conflicts often more provocative than combat action. His last assignment as 7th Fleet Surgeon on board the flagship, USS BLUE RIDGE, became the inspiration for the FLAGSHIP! Series. The trilogy includes RIVEN DAWN, SOUTH CHINA SUNDOWN, and RISING SUN…MORNING STORM.

Mike holds a classical degree in English from the University of San Francisco, a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a Master of Public Health Degree from Johns Hopkins University.

A lot of military men will love South China Sundown! A Flagship Novel! It is a tale of the modern American Navy. The protagonist is a female navy captain and I can’t remember any other books I’ve read where that is the case. South China Sundown focuses on the private lives and personal problems of today’s fighting men and women. If you love military jargon like that found in the novels of the late great Tom Clancy then this is a book for you. It offers a glimpse into many aspects of military life. The integration of homosexuals, the effects of duty on family life, and alcoholism are just a few of the problems highlighted. The main military and political problem is the rise of Chinese assertiveness in the South Sea. It is a sensitive topic that makes international headlines on a regular basis.

Mike J. Krentz has created a tribute to the people who defend and protect the interests of America every day, sometimes at the expense of their personal and family lives. In fact the main focus of South China Sundown! is the day to day problems our men and women in uniform face. The conflict between the navies of America and China is simply a platform to show us what our soldiers and sailors endure, sacrifice, and accomplish for their country. The writing is sound and the situations realistic.
