This is a compilation of nine stories by Melinda M. Spencer. 'Gets Hurt' is the story of a rooster that injures his wing and how he finds a way to go places with a set of springs.

Spencer`s 'Jimmy Squirrel' is the story of a squirrel that was also injured and how the rooster helps him with another set of springs.

Spencer`s 'Mildred Milk' talks about the way Spencer the rooster moves about and how he will help others with his invention.

Then in Spencer`s 'Names His Little Adopted Birds', while helping the squirrel, the rooster finds a nest that is ready to fall and puts it in a safe place. He then adopts the two birds in the nest and feeds them and keeps them from harm.

Spencer’s 'Little Red Birds Test Their Wings' is the story of how the little birds start to fly. The Journey happens when the rooster and the little birds are told of a paradise-like place for red birds.

The orphan birds go there to be safe. Red Bird Valley is the name of the bird paradise. It is all the little birds ever dreamed of, and a lot of happy things are found in that valley.

'Silly Earthworm' is the story of a family of earthworms who need to go back to their old home for a time until they can find a new house for their many children.

'Willie Chipmunk Meets Herman Airplane' is the story of a toy airplane that was dumped by his owner and found by a squirrel. They soon become friends, and the talking airplane felt at home in the squirrel family. This tale teaches the real meaning of friendships that should exist in the world.

The finale, 'Whistles, the Whistling Oak Tree', is the tale of a frightened little lamb that, with the help of a wise oak tree, finds a place for herself. The whistling tree helps others feel good.

I found these stories good for children between four and six years old. As such, they should be a set of books and not published as a single book. It is too long for that age group; it could easily be a series of books. The pictures are bright and cute enough to entertain kids. It could use a bit of editing; it has repetitive phases, but a kid may not even care.
