In Kristi Shimada’s Spirit Sisters Forever, the two princesses become fast friends, two young spirits set on an adventure, a journey of destiny as they seek to bring peace to their planet, Alcyone. There are other friends acquired on their journey, and it’s a grand adventure, full of magic, dreams, spirit creatures like dragons and unicorns, and scary trolls. But even those who were once considered enemies (the trolls) have some good creatures amongst them, and friendship can develop between those who once believed the other to be evil. One can indeed discover friends in unusual places and amongst the unexpected.
Kristi Shimada’s early chapter book, Spirit Sisters Forever, is an exciting fantasy adventure for young readers. Told in simple language to help young readers improve their reading skills, the author uses lots of dialogue to move the plot forward and develop the characters. The plot is well constructed, leading readers into a chain of enticing events as the adventure unfolds and tension builds. The characters are well-developed and believable. There are some spectacular illustrations by Eko Setiawan throughout the book, helping move the story along and setting the stage for future events. This is a great story to introduce young readers to fantasy and adventure and inspire them to read more. The bond of a beautiful friendship is deeply enriching.
