Stress Less: 10 Balancing Insights on Work and Life by Amy Freeman is a self-help book aimed at helping us create some small spaces and stolen moments so we can take a break from our busy and stressful schedules. It is about developing the ability to accept that you cannot do it all in one day, so you can take the much-needed breaks and eventually be more productive. Based on a set of easy guiding principles like realising that you are not the only one struggling with the stress-work-life balance and knowing that the changes you need to make in your life do not necessarily have to be big, Amy Freeman elaborates 10 insights on how you can manage your stress levels and achieve a more fulfilled life.

Stress Less is a brief guide on how we can minimise the stress that comes with tight schedules by changing our attitude towards life and accepting that there will always be things we cannot accomplish as originally planned. The 10 insights on stress management are easy steps that we can easily make part of our day-to-day lives and they are very practical. The book acknowledges the fact that stress will always be a part of our lives in today's fast moving world, but there are things we can do to manage the stress levels so things do not get out of control. It has practical exercises at the end of each chapter that enable you to internalise and practice what you have just read. The book also includes QR codes with more helpful material that readers can easily access with their phones, making it a more exciting read and allowing the reader to get more clarity.

Being overwhelmed and stressed out is killing our nation and each one of us individually. Stress Less: 10 Balancing Insights on Work and Life offers a solution to this horrible phenomenon that has overtaken our thinking. Amy Freeman lays out ten practical suggestions for balancing work and life. The first priority of it all is to schedule time for yourself and give yourself the value that you deserve by making yourself the most important part of your work and life. Amy tells us to start small and allow each thing to build upon the others as we discover that taking care of ourselves actually makes us happier and more productive. Getting enough rest, asking for help, developing and nurturing long-term relationships, and taking care of your health are only a few of the valuable suggestions offered in her book. Mixed into the end of each chapter are “rest stops” where the reader is able to actually apply what is suggested in the chapter, as well as a short piece called “another perspective” that typically provides an example of what was contained in the chapter.

All in all I found Amy Freeman’s suggestions in Stress Less: 10 Balancing Insights on Work and Life to hold a great deal of value and practicality. Each chapter is concise and focused. The additional features of the “rest stops” are helpful for actually utilizing the information provided. I enjoyed the way that she used her own personal experiences to provide a practical example of how to achieve what had been suggested in the chapter. Practical, valuable and encouraging, Stress Less: 10 Balancing Insights on Work and Life, if taken seriously and used in practical applications, can help you break the shackles of stress and balance your work with your life.
