Suddenly Single: The Adventures of a Divorced Man in the New World of Women by James Hulbert introduces us to Tom Lord, the Vice President of the American Broadcasters Association. He has been through a terrible divorce that took place after 30 years of marriage. After the divorce, it is time to rebuild and, while he is trying to do that, he finds out just how much he has missed in the world of women and dating while he was married. He finds out how much more independent, dominating, ambitious and sexually free women have become. Can he survive and overcome his lonesomeness and depression?
Going through a divorce myself after 10 years of marriage, I can totally understand how Tom feels. He is feeling out of touch and upset - after all, a marriage fell apart. Him getting back out there, however, is worth a smile because he is trying and boy does he run into some interesting characters while he is trying. I think that Claire is my favorite and the fact that she is a swinger makes it even more interesting. The writing style is fresh and you can tell that James Hulbert really wanted to put a new slant on your typical romance. Everything is seen from Tom's point of view. So often this kind of book is from the female's point of view; it is fun to see it from the man's. I found this book to be thoughtful and engaging and enjoyed every moment that I was reading it. If you are looking for a fun romp in a post-divorce land, give this one a try.
