Suspicious Minds is a work of fiction in the murder mystery, Christian fiction, and romantic suspense subgenres, and forms the opening novel in the Dry Brook series. It is suitable for the general adult reading audience. Penned by author Sherri Kukla, the story follows Lorelai Gatlin, a single woman with a good career, strong friendships, and unwavering Christian faith, who suddenly finds herself in a nightmare. She dreams of concealing evidence of a murder and awakens to discover her gun missing and her memory wiped clean. To make matters worse, the news reports a body's discovery. Lorelai questions her identity as an upstanding citizen. The novel weaves a suspenseful narrative, making readers question the nature of memory, trust, and identity.

Author Sherri Kukla expertly unfolds a story filled with twists and turns involving complex and hurting characters who are all in search of powerful emotional healing. What stood out for me especially was the author's ability to blend elements of mystery and romance with Christian faith, which is gently laced into the atmosphere and drive of the story to be present but never overbearing. This gives the work a unique angle unlike other mysteries, and the confident narrative voice of the author makes you feel as though you’re in safe hands, even when our unreliable protagonist is struggling to recall her own journey. This creates perfect tension that sustains a wonderful mystery, which is then augmented with some really fantastic romantic moments and surprising twists to the tale that really test Lorelai to her limits. Overall, Suspicious Minds is an engrossing read that I would certainly recommend to suspense fans everywhere, and I look forward to the next installment in the Dry Brook series.
