Sweet Ridge Hearts by Susan Bagby is a story of human frailty, prejudice, heartbreak, strength found within, determination, hope, and love. It is a romance between two souls that need to make peace with what life has thrown at them and to forgive not only themselves but those who have hurt them and left them. Kate Flangan works for Martin and Lewis Agency and is hoping to get a promotion to Creative Director. But then she discovers that because she is a woman, the promotion has been passed on to Simon, with whom she had worked and had a relationship. Kate decides she needs a break from the company and Simon, and goes to her cousin Christine in Maple Ridge, who runs her own business, Sweet Ridge Bakery, where she meets the handsome bakery manager, Derek Higgins.
In Sweet Ridge Hearts by Susan Bagby, the characters take the reader on a journey of discovery, heartache, achievement, self-worth, and acceptance. It brings to life the notion that people can share love and still achieve their individual goals by accepting each other with all their insecurities and problems. The characters show how misguided people can be when they cut themselves off, believing that they are not worthy to be loved, accepted, or understood. The journey that the reader takes through this beautiful story is one of endurance, love, and forgiveness. The characters bring the story to a conclusion that is soft and gentle, and one that the reader could not imagine. An inspiring book. I enjoyed reading it, will definitely recommend it, and will read it again. It is well worth reading and will be long-lasting in the reader's memory.
