Readers are invited into a whimsical world of wiggles, giggles, and rhymes in Carrie Dawn's Tales from Wiggleberry. Different aspects of Wiggleberry Land are introduced using short, lively tales. They include a curvy, looping road and The Diggles Diner, known for its Jiggling Jam. Along the way, there are some memorable characters, like a dog who can’t decide on a home, an indecisive neighbor, and a child with a stubborn baby tooth. More stops involve a bustling bakery with surprising pies, a funhouse full of moving furniture, and even a wild weather day when jellybeans pour down. The excitement is never-ending. But what other surprises might be waiting in Wiggleberry Land?
Tales from Wiggleberry by Carrie Dawn has a playful energy that I really enjoyed. Each page and rhyme brought a smile to my face—and sometimes even a little giggle. It would make the perfect read-aloud. As an educator, I can see it being used for activities like inviting children to invent and describe a place in Wiggleberry, making a list of other words that sound like wiggle, or having a discussion about which part was their favorite. It could be extended by having students draw a new character from the town or creating a class book inspired by the story. Carol Choi’s illustrations perfectly match the spirit and fun-filled nature of the narrative. They’re eye-catching, and I could envision students running their fingers over the roads or looking for something specific in the garden. This joyful, charming read will be loved by anyone in search of a silly rhyming tale.
