Tavi Tails: The Diary of a Dog is a work of fiction based in the animal world, and was penned by author Lisa Richman with the aid of her furry friend Tavi. Subtitled “Life Through the Eyes of a Master Human Trainer”, this spirited, humorous and often touching work explores the life of its titular character Tavi and the ‘Pack,’ which he calls family, consisting of the other dogs and humans that make up the household. Tavi is there to comfort Lisa in her difficult times at work as well as teach the new puppy what a daunting task it is to be a dog sometimes. What results is a charming and heartfelt expression of life through bark communications.
There is a really delightful style to this book which gives it a unique narrative quality, and it goes beyond simply choosing the perspective of the dog. The atmospheric touches, euphemisms, and word choices that author Lisa Richman puts into her work literally transport us into a totally different mindset, lifting us from the normality of our lives and encouraging a wonderful new perspective on family, loyalty, and love. There is plenty of gentle humor in the work and lots of funny interpretations of concepts which seem strange to Tavi and his furry pals, but there’s also a strong sense of emotive bonding and the way that our pets can sense our feelings and be there to help us. Overall, Tavi Tails: The Diary of a Dog is a superb work of fiction grounded in very touching reality.
