Ten Little Christmas Happies is a children's picture book by Janice Garden Macdonald. Christmas is a season of wonder during which people make beautiful, long-lasting memories. However, there are some holidays when family members can't create the same magic because they are sick, busy, or too far away. During those times, the narrator encourages readers to pull out "Christmas happies" from previous years and relive the times when they did something that created a tradition or sparked a special feeling during the holidays. At the end of the story, the author asks questions that will prompt children to pull from their holiday memories and precious moments. MacDonald also includes a QR code to access additional books and free resources.
Janice Garden MacDonald has created a keepsake that can be passed down the generations. MacDonald reminds us to be grateful for our lovely experiences and treasure them through our childhood and into adulthood. Additionally, we can share our great experiences with others and cheer them up when they are not having the best time. The story will stimulate discussions about happy family events and the times when families can't be together. After I read it to my children, they spoke about when their grandmother joined us over the phone for Christmas. Instead of lamenting her absence, they focused on her joy. The book is fun and the illustrations are delightful. MacDonald's questions create good topics for discussion at bedtime, at meals, or during family time. Any child who celebrates Christmas will love reading Ten Little Christmas Happies.
