Terrance McPhee and the Toy Eating Tree by Kathleen MacInnis Kichline is a well-written book that aims to teach children to appreciate the value of positive friendships. At the top of a hill, Terrance McPhee releases his paper airplane TMP-3 to soar, but it gets stuck in a tree. While he stands gazing, Cyril Arkfelt and a few more of Terrance’s friends come to help him get his plane off the tree branches. Each of them hurls a different item at the plane, including an action hero, a gorilla, a ball, and a boomerang. However, each of these items also gets stuck in the branches. Terrance and his friends decide to take a break to play and have fun, and afterward they rest under the tree's shade. Suddenly, unexpected help comes, and all the items stuck in the tree branches come free.

Reading this book brought back childhood memories of playtime I had with friends while growing up. This story was entertaining, and there were a few positive lessons that both kids and adults could derive from it. Personally, I learned to always take a break and seek help in situations beyond my capability to handle. Kids can learn the importance of kindness and teamwork from this story. I loved the illustrations by Scott Ward, and the colorful pages made the story more engaging for kids. Also, the characters were well-developed. The writing is concise, well-paced, straightforward, and easy to comprehend. I recommend Terrance McPhee and the Toy Eating Tree by Kathleen MacInnis Kichline to all young readers.
