The 13th Guest by Ruth S. Daigneault starts with a dinner invitation. Twelve guests are invited to dinner on Halloween and each one is expected to tell a short story at the dinner. One of the invited guests is a clairvoyant and 2 of the others are not who they appear to be. Each guest tells a story, some creepy, some mysterious. When it gets to Peter he tells the story of the mysterious disappearance of his father and the split of his family. His father has never been found, nor was there any trace of his journey on the fateful night he disappeared. A seance is held and a spirit is called, the 13th guest. But, who is he? Who are the 2 guests that are not what they seem and what ghastly secret is one of the guests hiding?
The 13th Guest by Ruth S. Daigneault was interesting. Although it is a complete story in its own right, the addition of a separate story from each guest made it more intriguing and, perhaps, a little different from the norm. Throughout the whole story there is a vein of mystery. You know something is going to happen; you just don't know what it is or who is involved until the end. Very nicely pulled together and could perhaps make a good TV movie with a bit of tweaking and polishing. Overall, this was a good story and it did keep me reading to the very end.
