The Accidental Road by Jodi Lea Stewart is a most unusually written book as it seems to start up with a reference to a famous actress and then changes to Ellie Cranston, her daughter Katherine, and then the thorn in the side, Roy the wife beater, but the reader wonders if Ellie is really Roy's wife. This book winds through the countryside, taking the famous Route 66 and meandering toward La Vegas, the supposed final destination.
The author uses her two main characters to the best advantage. Ellie and Katherine take the reader on their path with all its ups, downs, disasters, and joys. They meet the most amazing people on their journey as they try to find a place called home and someone to accept them just for who and what they are. Each new discovery and person is likened to a book that Katherine has read or a movie seen with her best friend Stevie. This is a delight as it brings each incident to life in a totally unexpected way. Readers will find themselves reading from cover to cover because of the twists and turns in this plot.
Jodi Lea Stewart uses man's need to make a home, no matter how humble, his castle, where he belongs and can return to in time of need. Just when the reader thinks nothing more can happen, the twist is so unexpected that it catches the reader totally unaware. The Accidental Road is a book that, once you start reading, you will have to finish just to find out what happens to the main characters. Thank you for a delightful read. I really enjoyed it.
