When Ashlyn’s father dies he leaves her everything. Provided she gets married within a couple months and stays that way. For a year. Working towards her doctorate, Ashlyn has no plans or desire to get married and if not for the fact that her mother would lose her home, she’d say to hell with it all. Enter Deacon Cross, a self-made billionaire who also needs a wife for very vague reasons the reader doesn’t know yet. When The Arrangement begins we already know that Jennifer Lewis has crafted two very dynamic characters with a lot of chemistry and a lot of animosity. It’s a crazy way to start a year of marriage, but you know things are going to be explosive.
I really wanted to love The Arrangement: Marriage of Convenience Book 1 because the first half of the book was pretty good. It was funny and entertaining but somewhere along the way it became less fun. Ashlyn was a doormat to just about everyone and it seemed to be such a sudden switch that I couldn’t get over it. Deacon was a jerk but he grew on you because he was just a surface jerk. Once you got to know him, you could see exactly what Jennifer Lewis had in mind with his character. They were both hard to like at first, which only made the story more satisfying when we got to the ending. This is a good story. It’s fast paced and there is a lot going on to keep you interested. The Arrangement is worth the read as it is a bit of an emotional roller coaster.
