The Art of Being Let Go by Amulya Veldanda Vadali aims to comfort anyone who has ever lost their job. After an hour's drive to the office, a tired, hardworking woman is told she is being let go. She is given a generic layoff speech that angers her, but she holds it in, opting to leave with dignity. She reminisces about the five years she has worked for the company and how she has been treated. She thinks of her annoying coworkers and soon realizes she was slaving for nothing. The small pay raises, the endless work, and the lack of appreciation for her efforts all come back to her. She decides to have a fresh start, take time to relax, be optimistic about the future, and find a better job. Soon, she realizes that being fired is not as bad as she expected.

The Art of Being Let Go isn’t just a funny take on getting laid off—it’s pretty comforting, too. Amulya Veldanda Vadali really gets what it’s like to lose your job: that gut punch of shock, the anger, the frustration. She’s sharp with her humor, especially when she pokes fun at the generic corporate lingo and those empty reassurances companies hand out when they let people go. But it’s not just jokes; she shows you what it takes to pick yourself up and keep going. The encouraging messages, combined with Bryant Franco’s colorful illustrations, bring the book to life. Each scene is comical and will definitely put a smile on your face and make you feel better. There are also spots in the book where you can write about your own work experiences—your old boss, your workplace, what you’re excited or relieved to do now that you’re free. I enjoyed every bit of it, and I think anyone who wants to laugh, heal, and feel inspired when life throws a curveball will, too.
