In The Belle of Oyster Bay by Angela Moody, the author has written a historically accurate period romance set during the War of Independence from England and King Georg III to become the America we now know. At that time the only inhabited area covered the islands and land around Staten Island and the areas we now know as New York, Brooklyn, and its surrounds. The story is set in the years 1775 to 1783 when the treaty for independence from England was eventually signed after George Washington and the colonials had given the King's Army, the Redcoats, a very hard time.
