It's undeniable that making fun of overweight people has been normalized in society for far too long. Harassment, cyberbullying, and fat-shaming are pretty prevalent across all social media platforms. In The Book of Body Positivity, Rajeev Kurapati explores the stigma surrounding obesity, its consequences, and its effects on a person's physical and psychological well-being. Readers will learn about weight stigma in healthcare and society in general, adiposity and everything it entails, the failings of BMI, fat cells and their function, the mechanical, functional, and direct effects of fat cells, set point theory, etc. In addition, you will find in-depth insights and tips on developing a healthier microbiome, weight-loss surgery and its ramifications, navigating various eating disorders, the exploitative model of the food industry, and much more.

The Book of Body Positivity busts some commonly held myths about weight gain and provides well-researched and thoroughly explained information on how to combat obesity and the social stigma surrounding the condition. According to Rajeev Kurapati, even healthcare professionals are prone to biases regarding weight issues due to the use of outdated metrics and diagnostic practices. Furthermore, this book takes a deep dive into diet culture, body positivity movements, how to maintain a healthy metabolism, strength-training exercises, and the role of government policies in the rise of obesity. Kurapati presents the content in an accessible writing style, and it makes even some of the more technical aspects of the book easily understandable for the reader. Overall, it is one of the most comprehensively written, informative, and clear-cut books on health and lifestyle I've read. Highly recommended!
