The Boys from the Back Room by Calvin Bowden is a murder mystery. Raz Jester has everything he could possibly want; a successful quarterback in high school, he has a beautiful wife and daughter and a very rich father-in-law. So who could want his wife dead? Law enforcement fails to find her killer so Raz puts himself on the case. Nothing will stop him, not even a spell in prison. Raz learns much during his incarceration, but not what he wanted to find out. When he is released, he takes a taped confession with him, a confession that points the finger at every drug connection in Northville. Raz plans to take them all down and find his wife’s murderer. Things are not that straightforward though, especially when local criminals and corrupt police officers try to stop him from handing the tape over to the FBI. The question is, can he do it and find the murderer before they get to him?

The Boys from the Back Room by Calvin Bowden is a cracking good read. It is a thrilling tale that twists and turns its way; hooking a reader from the start and hanging on to the very end. This is a fast-paced story, complex and coming from three directions that all meld into one and conclude in an explosive finale. The characters were well developed and easy to identify with, brought to life through a colorful story that will drag you with it on a bumpy rollercoaster ride. Mr. Bowden is a master with words and has written what is, in my opinion, one of the best murder mysteries I have read in a long time. I recommend this to anyone who wants a story to lose themselves in, and I will be adding Mr. Bowden to my list of must-read authors.
