In The Boys of the Dixie Pig by Stacy Childs, Mack Barton is a weapons dealer. The last four years of his life had not been easy. As he has a dangerous job, someone far more dangerous is always after him and he is always running away from that someone. Currently, it is a mob boss in Las Vegas who is after his blood and the FBI is again trying to pin him down for some crime he might or might not have committed. He needs a break. And when he is given an invitation for a vacation with old buddies, who he is to turn it down? To keep his brain cells in proper functioning condition, he travels to Golden, Colorado, where he meets up with his three best buddies from high school. The reunion is going on pretty smoothly. They get drunk, eat good food, and enjoy the company of their old friend Ace Strain who has done pretty well for himself. But before the vacation comes to an end, he and his friends are caught up in a web of murder, kidnapping, and some more insane incidents that endanger their lives.

I don’t know if this novel was meant to be funny, but Stacy Childs had me laughing like a loon. The Boys of the Dixie Pig is awesome; there is no other word to describe it. The story is engaging, attractive and engrossing. You will not be able to put it down. Plus, Mack is an amazing character. I wish we had men like him in real life

The Boys of the Dixie Pig by Stacy Childs is an engaging and suspenseful thriller fiction read. The book takes readers on an up-and-down ride full of twists, turns and jaw dropping moments. Mack Barton is no stranger to insane predicaments (think an angry Las Vegas crime boss and unwanted interest from the CIA to name just a couple of issues), so he welcomes a relaxing (so he thinks) reunion with some old high school buddies in Colorado. But everything is not exactly what it seems and it doesn’t take Mack long before he’s caught up in one insane and suspenseful situation after another. Can he ever catch a break and have just one day free from murder, kidnapping and angry pursuers?

I found The Boys of Dixie Pig to be a real page-turning read. It was definitely hard to put down and the plot takes readers from just one situation after another (with little time to breathe in between). The author does a superb job keeping the mystery and suspense going and will keep you guessing until the last pages. I found the main character Mack Barton, along with his companions, well written and their reactions and dialogue felt realistic to the situations they found themselves in. The story flowed nicely, and it was entertaining and fun to try to figure out what was going to happen next, and how Mack would get himself out of yet another dicey predicament. I think mystery, action, thriller and suspense fans will find a lot to like in The Boys of Dixie Pig and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

The Boys of the Dixie Pig by Stacy Childs opens up with Mack Barton waking up in the dead of the night to find himself being taken away for settling an old debt. He overpowers the immediate threat. Mainly for a change, he accepts an email invitation from an old buddy, Ace, who is on to bigger things in life. He joins Ace and, along with other invitees, they make merry. Soon violence ensues, taking Mack into a conundrum of romance, kidnapping, murder and all.

The Boys of the Dixie Pig by Stacy Childs is a book full of action. From the opening scene itself, the tension begins, driving one to turn the page the instant one is about to catch the last line. Almost all the descriptions, especially action, have a smooth flow, as can be seen in this example: “He gasped, and the box leaped from his hands and fell to the deck below. He leaned over the rail and watched as the head rolled aft, and the box was caught by the wind and soared upward and overboard.” Although I maintained serious doubts about a plausible ending, the author has convincingly brought the story to a fitting end. Each and every character of this story plays a part that constantly adds to the crescendo, with the reader always kept on his toes. This is a fantastic novel; the characters, the setting and the style are worthy of setting benchmarks for others to follow.

The Boys of the Dixie Pig by Stacy Childs introduces us to Mack Barton, a weapons dealer who has spent 40 years running from scary people. Today is no exception for him as a crime boss in Las Vegas wants to kill him because of an overdue gambling debt. Mack wants to take his mind off all of the troubles in his life and so he accepts an invitation to a reunion with some good friends. Golden Colorado is the location and he settles in for some fun with his buddies. Trouble follows, however, and before the reunion is over Colombian gun runners and mob hit men will show up and get tangled into the web of death, romance, and the question of reincarnated sports stars, all caught up in a crazy chain of kidnapping, murder and insanity.

This is a crazy book; crazy and well written. It is an adventure that goes from one point to the next at a pretty breakneck speed. Stacy Childs knows how to write a fantastic book that will make you think and wonder. You won't be able to find your way through all the turns before another one comes. I love that about this book. If you want a book that is well written, flows well, and is full of adventure, this is going to be a read for you. Every moment of this book sucks you in and I have to applaud the author for that. It took me a little while to warm up to Mack, but once I did I decided he was someone I could get behind. A character that makes you work to warm up to them is a more interesting one to me. Well done and thumbs up on this must-read book.

The last forty years or so, Mack Barton has been a weapons dealer. Dealing weapons can make for some enemies, but that’s not all of his problems. A low level crime boss in Las Vegas wants to kill him because of an overdue gambling debt. Then maybe it’s the C.I.A., blaming him for things gone wrong in a Syria deal? Or maybe it was the last Colombia deal? In any case, he has major problems.

With some time on his hands, he travels to Golden, Colorado, where he and three other friends are guests of their mutual buddy, Ace Strain. Ace is a psychiatrist but his main job is proprietor of a cutting edge cryonics company where he offers them the opportunity of cryogenic stasis until things “get better.” But Mack’s problems soon catch up when Colombian gun runners and mob hit men arrive on the scene. Along the way, he and his companions face intrigue, death, romance, kidnapping, murder, and even insanity.

Stacy Childs did an outstanding job with The Boys of the Dixie Pig. The story starts off with a bang and continues from there. I wasn’t sure what to expect from it, but was I ever surprised! Childs takes the reader on a wild roller coaster ride where you never quite know what's going to happen next, with a lot of action, intrigue, suspense and some sci-fi thrown in for good measure. I really liked his cast of characters, with Mack and his gambling and tequila addictions leading the way. I would highly recommend this book to readers of action-adventure stories.
