“Being different is a gift, … Trust your heart. It will always guide you.” In Wizard Penfield’s The Christmas Leprechaun, a young leprechaun named Finn knew he wasn’t like the other leprechauns around him. They were full of mischief and greed. Finn sought to be someone better, someone full of kindness and generosity. He wanted to venture to the North Pole and share his magic for good, like Santa’s elves. His journey was difficult, not one that merely crossed rough terrain. His journey was fraught with those who disbelieved his purpose. Even Santa’s elves initially only saw him as a mischievous leprechaun. Could Finn change their opinion of him? Could he fit in and share the true joy and magic of Christmas? The magic of giving and caring.

Wizard Penfield’s picture book, The Christmas Leprechaun, is a gem full of good thoughts, good intentions, and generosity. Told in simple language so that young readers can easily understand, this story follows Finn’s journey to find his true purpose in life. It’s not important to be the same as everyone else; what’s important is that we all shine being who we are and with our own unique qualities. Whilst Finn’s journey was intended as a quest for a more caring way of life, he discovered that it was also a journey full of sharing what and who you are – the true magic of Christmas. The illustrations are bright, bold, and colorful, and add an exciting dimension to the story. This is a wonderful, charming addition to anyone’s Christmas story collection. Let the beauty of the Christmas spirit shine through us all, as it did for a little leprechaun named Finn.
