The Crab Who Wanted To Be A Dolphin: A Children's Picture Book on Learning Kindness (WantsToBe 7) by Valerie Harmon is, as the title suggests, the 7th book of the WantsToBe series. In this story, we meet a crab who wants to become a Dolphin because she is crabby and cranky and has no friends. Grumpy Crab was tired of being unhappy and lonely, and one day she sees some smiling dolphins and she thinks she will also be happy if she becomes one. She tells the Dolphin of her wish and the Dolphin tries to teach her how to swim like them. The Dolphin takes the Crab on its back for a swim. Will the Crab finally be able to be like a Dolphin and remain happy and cheerful?

The story is highly imaginative, but at the same time teaches kids some interesting concepts like perseverance, gratitude and friendship. The Seagull helps the Crab to get back into the water when it could have eaten her. It is a good book that can be used for bedtime reading and also for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The illustrations are funny and colorful and they capture the pace and movement of the story very well. The message that one can develop and grow, and find new qualities will inspire kids to persevere and learn new things. The story also makes their thinking more creative and imaginative and will motivate them to try out new things.
