Darla Kelly survived a kidnapping by a psychopath who also murdered her father. Although still traumatized, she manages to go on with her life with the help of therapy sessions, her friends and her lovable dog, Merlin. However, she’s plagued by a nightmare that keeps waking her in the middle of the night and the fact that her late father had been keeping a secret from her. Meanwhile, Detective Mike Shafer is dealing with an assault case of a young man who now lies in a coma in the hospital. An attempt on his life by an impostor in the ward reveals that the initial attack isn't random as someone really wants the patient dead. A sequel to Shards Of Trust, M.A. Koontz continues with Darla Kelly's story in The Cry Beyond The Door.

Once again Koontz delivers a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Protagonist Darla is doing her best to piece her life back together but finding out her dad's secret quickly catapults her into dangerous situations once more. Just like its predecessor, The Cry Beyond The Door is easily engaging. The writing has a great flow as expected, and the plot has good depth including a complex twist that many won’t see coming. Despite being a sequel, new readers will find this is a solid standalone that they can enjoy. Simply put, this is another great read from M.A. Koontz, a brilliant mystery for fans of the genre.
