The Dawn of Speech is a short collection of poems written by Joseph Wood. "The Night" is a metaphor for how people tend to cling to the last vestiges of hope in the face of overwhelming darkness. "Sleeping" takes us into the headspace of a person who has trouble getting past their self-destructive tendencies until someone special comes into their life. "Guaranteed Love" is an ode to one's love interest. "Annabel" is another poem dedicated to the woman of the narrator's dreams. "Growing Old" relates the deep desire to grow old with one's lover. "Sunset Love" reflects upon the tail end of a romantic relationship. "Sing Me to Sleep" speaks of the despair one feels when someone they love is no longer part of their life. "The Search" relates the quest for one's self-discovery and purpose.

Joseph Wood delves into themes of love, loss, despair, self-discovery, and ultimately, the everlasting quest to seek purpose and meaning in one's life and creates an enthralling collection of poems that leave you with a lot to ponder. Thematically rich and stylistically engaging, The Dawn of Speech is a must-read for poetry lovers. Every poem feels like an amalgamation of a larger narrative that explores the human condition through a myriad of ideas and themes. Although part of a central unifying narrative, each poem is unique and stands on its own. I particularly enjoyed "Growing Old Together", "Sunset Love", and "The Search". If you're looking for some beautifully written poetry to immerse yourself in, I highly recommend The Dawn of Speech.
