J. Lee's The Deadly Deal is a chilling, action-packed conspiracy thriller involving powerful corporations and government agencies. David Centrelli is the director of business development at Medzic Pharmaceuticals in Richmond, Virginia. Medzic is a global leader in new drug development. David's responsibilities include managing and growing the value of the company's products. A new drug in development, Previseo, shows incredible properties: it can cure Type 1 diabetes. David's everyday life turns upside down when he gets the news that his best friend, Jake Lemoure, and his wife are dead from a fire in their apartment. David is heartbroken. Even more shocking and unbelievable details follow: Jake's death was not accidental. He was murdered. David knows he cannot ignore the significance of what Jake knew. David takes the first steps to untangle the mystery and almost immediately finds himself on the run for his own life.
From the outset, I was hooked by The Deadly Deal for its complex characters and compelling storyline of a well-hidden web of intrigue involving corporations and government agencies. I liked David's character development as the story unfolded. David emerges as a sharp, intelligent, hardworking, and capable executive. I liked how the well-crafted and realistic life-threatening situations he finds himself in reveal his loyalty toward his best friend, Jake. The interweaving of emotions and thoughts into the action-packed scenes heightened the tension, and I was riveted as the bigger picture of the conspiracy emerged. David was fearful, vulnerable, and exposed to situations with no protection or guarantee of survival. Only his drive to seek justice makes him determined to continue his fight. J. Lee's The Deadly Deal is a terrific read, with compelling characters, suspense, a quest for justice, and a thought-provoking high-stakes conspiracy that deals with contemporary issues.
