In The Englander, a thriller by John Righten, Connor Pierce (the Englander) was found by four assassins in front of his daughter's grave. Connor was waiting for them and had placed explosives in the first three rows of the graves near the entrance to the small cemetery. The Wolves, a notorious group of mercenary terrorists, were responsible for the tragic deaths of Connor’s fiancée and daughter in a bombing incident. The bombing was a warning to Lenka, Connor's sister, to give up an album she had taken and withdraw her testimony. This album contained incriminating photos exposing the horrors committed by the Wolves. Connor would do anything needed to keep Lenka and his friends safe. Determined to protect Lenka, Connor embarked on a mission to dismantle the Wolves' mercenary network.
The plot of The Englander by John Righten is masterfully crafted. I could not put the book down because of how quickly the plot advanced with all its twists and turns. I was engrossed in the story from the beginning and found myself guessing until the end. I was kept on the edge of my seat with just the appropriate amount of intrigue and tension. There was never a dull moment, and I could not turn the pages fast enough. The characters were well-developed and authentic. Connor was devastated by his fiancée and daughter's passing and was set on bringing the Wolves down. Connor was a formidable enemy because his exceptional military expertise made him an expert and competent killer. This book is well-written and an exciting read. It exceeded my expectations by far.
