Former FBI profiler Decimus Farr arrives home to a note, “Your fiancée dies in twenty-four hours.” He’s then sent on a mission to find a series of five boxes, each containing a clue to the next one, with the final one revealing the location of where his fiancée, Trin, is being held captive. As he races around Atlanta and finds each clue, he realizes they’re all linked back to his most challenging serial killer cases he investigated as a profiler. Is there one person behind this, or are there people from each case working together to mess with his head? Can he solve the clues and extract Trin before the 24 hours run out? Read Steven F. Freeman’s The Extraction to find out.
I love race-against-time novels as they’re the ultimate page-turners and impossible to put down. I read this book in two days because I had to know whether he could rescue her in time. Steven F. Freeman did extensive research before writing this book. There are five serial killers featured, each with a completely different backstory and MO, and the level of detail is exceptional. I love first-person narratives when they’re done this well, and being inside Decimus’s mind as he struggles to solve all the clues is as exciting as the action scenes. The Extraction is a psychological thriller that will have you gasping at every turn. The absolute blindside at the end left me reeling. I can promise you, it’s not who you think it is. I’m already a Steven F. Freeman superfan, and this book just confirms for me his range as an author.
