"The Flight of the Griffin" by C.M. Gray is a great book for a child or young adult with fun themes that resound through the book. The five main characters who are living in an old boat called The Griffin end up becoming heroes at the end of time when a burglary puts them on the path to finish “The last great spell”. It is a spell that will stop the balance of the world and push it right over the edge into chaos. The five characters become the Thief, magician, priest, and fighter. They run into all sorts of evil from demons, evil magic and the Hawk, an evil hunter who hunts men.
This was a very fast read for me and one that I really enjoyed. I think the target audience would take a little bit longer time to read it but they would enjoy it just as much. I like it when I find a book targeting a younger audience also appeals to adults because it becomes a book the whole family could talk about. C.M. Gray has done a great job with this book and made a fun and unique story line. There were a few plot points that to me seemed a bit obvious but that did not make the book any less enjoyable. I also feel that those twists would have been less obvious to a younger reader. All of the characters are enjoyable and you can find something to connect with them about. I would happily recommend this to any of my friends with kids or even those without for a fun and magical read.
