Volume One of The Friend Zone (Chloe and Skye) introduces us to Chloe and Skye. Chloe is a former fat girl with at least one bad relationship under her belt and has been engaging in a “man-ban” for the past two years. Skye is the former awkward teen who is now a 'sexy as sin' country rocker who still has an eye for Chloe. When Skye’s band, Escaped, lands at her best friend’s bar, the chemistry between them is enough to scare the bejeezus out of Chloe and make her re-think her self-imposed exile from men. When Chloe’s abusive ex starts popping up at the bar and in front of her apartment, she uses Skye to keep him at distance. Skye willingly allows it because it gives him the perfect opportunity to be up close and personal with Chloe. Despite Skye coming to her rescue and a night of really hot sex, Chloe promptly puts the delicious Skye into the dreaded 'friend' zone, or so she thinks. But The Friend Zone kicks it up a notch when Todd shows up unexpectedly and assaults Chloe just as she’d connected with Skye.
Tabetha Thompson shows her skill as a brilliant writer throughout the story, but particularly the conversations between Chloe and Todd. These best friends are loud, potty-mouthed, and so funny you’ll be laughing out loud. Tabetha Thompson wrote a solid story that moves quickly to keep you engaged. The characters are young so the dialogue fits them and she pulls it off perfectly. Unfortunately, it is a cliffhanger so you’ll have to pick up the next volume to find out what happens with Chloe and Skye.
