The Gemini Conspiracy by PJ Lawton is an entertaining murder mystery. Thomas James, better known as TJ, has retired as a police detective and taken over his friend Simon’s PI business. His first day sets the tone as he meets an old ‘friend’ of Simon and stares down the barrel of a gun. From there, it’s downhill all the way. Senator Beauford is widely tipped to be the next President of the United States, but he’s being blackmailed. It could be anyone; he has three ex-wives for a start. TJ is tasked with finding the blackmailer, but things are about to take a nasty turn when bodies start turning up. Clues are left at the scene of each murder, clues that point to the Senator as being the perpetrator. Is he on a killing spree or is he being set up? DS Penny Lane is in charge of the investigation and, with TJ being targeted by an assassin, time is against them to find a murderer and a blackmailer while keeping TJ safe. Becoming a PI may not have been the best move TJ ever made.

The Gemini Conspiracy by PJ Lawton is a good book, but I did find it a little hard going, at least to start with. It was a little bit wordy in places; sometimes less really is more but, overall, I really did enjoy the read. Once I got into it, I found it a compelling story. The plot is good, although a little jumpy in places, but it flows reasonably well, and it is an entertaining story. The characters are developed well, and the main ones are very likable characters, a few colorful ones as well. A little bit of editing and this will make a cracking good read. There is plenty of action in it, enough to keep a reader interested in finding out the conclusion, and a great story line.
