While collecting trash on the side of the road, an older woman gets caught in a web of intrigue in the suspense novel, The Hartpury Horror by J. D. Warner. Pensioner Molly Turner likes to pick up litter while she takes her daily walks as a way to help her community. It makes her feel as if she is contributing to the beauty of her small village. One day her life takes an ominous turn when she happens upon a bag of cash. Frightened, Molly leaves it where it is and continues on home. Before she gets farther down the road, a large man assaults Molly, insisting she has taken the money and demands she return it. Upending the trash onto the ground, the monstrous man searches Molly for the money. When he doesn't find it, he leaves. However, the troubles in Molly's life have only just begun. How can Molly prove she had nothing to do with the money? Will she get out of it alive?
The Hartpury Horror by J. D. Warner is a tense and suspenseful novella. The story has a fantastic plot with an engaging storyline. Well-developed, the characters capture the heart and are easy to love or despise depending on their role. Molly's guts and shrewdness belie her age and circumstances, creating a marvelous protagonist. I love how she gave as good as she got. The scenes containing a touch of violence and blood give the story a chill factor that intensifies the drama. It is a breathtaking story that will charm and entertain everyone who loves a great crime novel with unique heroines. I appreciate that the author has designated all profits of the book for Animal Free Research UK.
