What is hope? Hope is something you can’t see. It is a feeling or a thought. That may be a good philosophical answer, but it will not satisfy the curious mind of a child. Hope is described and explained in The Hope Seed by Ellen Paton. This children’s book tackles the hard task of explaining the unexplainable. Hope is difficult to define because hope means different things to different people. A child may hope for dessert after dinner, while the child’s father may hope for a raise at work. The same principle can be felt differently and explained in different terms. This book's little hope seed travels a long distance to learn from different animals what hope means. Children will be excited to discover what hope is and understand the importance of hope.

Dr. Ellen Paton helps children understand the concept of hope through her book The Hope Seed. While reading this book, your child will be introduced to several different animals and aspects of hope. The illustrations by Shayna Renee Olivier will help to keep your child’s interest. It also provides an opportunity to spend time discussing hope with your child and what it means to them. Help them understand that hope may change over time, and their understanding will grow and change as they become older. Having spent over forty years in my counseling office, I know that hope is the one ingredient everyone needs to survive. Give your child the gift of hope!
