If you like women's fiction, you'll love the latest from Wendy Wax. It's entitled The House on Mermaid Point and it takes off from Wax's previous novel, Ten Beach Road. It also stands alone in development, plot and in comprehension. Most of the characters from the last book are prominent in this book and they are absolutely delightful women. I started out detesting William Hightower, a former rock star who is drug-addicted and down on his luck. William's son convinces William that the only way he can make ends meet is to turn over his house to a team of female decorators who host a television show called Do Over. Maddie is divorced and she is failing to find her way as a single woman. Her bond with Deirdre, Avery and Nicki is touching and it speaks well to the support women offer one another in times of heartbreak and vulnerability.

There are several wonderful subplots in The House on Mermaid Point. Although Maddie and William have divergent opinions on topics such as male and female roles, decorating and relationships, the interaction of the two is a lesson in give and take, honesty and respect. Nicki has lost all her assets due to a Ponzi scheme and she needs to take a good look at priorities and goals. Deirdre and her daughter Avery still have a lot to work out as mother and daughter, but they beautifully demonstrate what a little flexibility will do for a relationship. I loved the way author Wax developed the relationship between William and Maddie. Each has lessons to learn and it's up to the reader to decide the success of their choices. Add to that the stunning descriptions of the Florida Keys, and the reader has a bountiful supply of treats in store!
