The Illuminator Rising by Alina Sayre is volume three of The Voyages of the Legend series. Ellie and her friends have watched Rhynlyr, their home island, destroyed and now, from the safety of the ship, they must find the Vestigia Roi who had survived. First, they must be prepared to solve a riddle, but what they find is not what they expected. They thought they would find a safe place, but instead they have a small band of refugees, starving and sick refugees who have lost heart and are just waiting for the final blow from the Draaken. Those that crew the Legend have been given new gifts, but will they be enough to finish the fight? Can Ellie and her friends get the Vestigians to stand up and fight the Draaken before all is lost
The Illuminator Rising: The Voyages of the Legend by Alina Sayre made for a thrilling read. I have not read books one and two, but I certainly shall do so. Although this is in the children’s fantasy/sci-fi genre, I think that many other readers will enjoy it too. Although I was not familiar with any of the characters, I felt that they were sufficiently developed in this book to give me some background on them. In terms of the actual storyline, I couldn’t fault it. There was plenty of action in it, everything seemed to follow a natural course, and there was nothing that didn’t fit in with what was going on. Alina Sayre clearly has a real flair for writing, and a series like this must have taken a fantastic imagination and a great deal of hard work – it shows. She also has a flair for being able to capture the interest of a reader and hold onto it. I really enjoyed the book and I believe that any reader will enjoy it too.
