The Intuitive Detective by Stacey Webb is the uplifting memoir of a dedicated police officer. Webb speaks about the traumas she experienced in her early years, like the death of her infant brother, Robert, and the loss of her father. She details her dream of becoming a police officer and how she has had to fight the inclination to please everyone but herself ever since childhood. We meet young Stacey buying chocolates for her loved ones from the first paycheck; studying for a scientific degree but finding the strength to leave a promising career to follow her dream; answering the chat box out of curiosity to meet her best friend and then the love of her life, Grant. Webb shares the challenges of being part of the police force, like the investigation into the death of a beautiful girl named Angel and how she overcomes her challenges. Webb always listens to her intuition which never betrays her. She follows the breadcrumbs that lead her to the right decisions in life to become a stronger person and help those around her.

Divided into small, convenient chapters, The Intuitive Detective is a quick yet profound read. I appreciated the clear writing style and the conclusions provided after every chapter which sums them up and encourages us. For Webb, her work as a police officer is a part of her spiritual development as she never stops helping people in need. Providing a sacred space or just listening to their pain, Webb reminds us about the importance of compassion. At the same time, she motivates us to be true to ourselves and never to forget to recharge after giving away too much energy. Webb even offers valuable practical recommendations about creating and maintaining a positive body image, bringing her struggles in her teenage years and after pregnancies as an example. Webb urges us to be present and always listen to that subtle voice within ourselves we call intuition that once allowed her to hear a silent cry for help from an injured child no one else could hear. I recommend Stacey Webb's story to those who love memoirs, non-fiction books about police work, and the motivational and self-help genres.
