Author Biography

I was born and raised in southern Louisiana. The art and culture of my home, and also the struggles it faces with tensions between minorities and the police, and its dated judicial system is what inspired my writing.  I made the choice to convert a school bus into a tiny house, and this has given me the ability to fulfill a life of learning, adventure, and travel, which is utilized in my writings to ensure that readers aren't just reading, but truly experiencing the story.

Set in olden day Paris, The Judge’s Demon spins a tale of terror and persecution of the gypsies trying to live their lives. The story unfolds from the perspective of Judge Fontaine, known to the people as Claude, and to very few as James. When a gypsy girl appeals to him as no other has, he steals her secretly away to his home, and keeps her as a lover, while at the same time being under orders from the king to rid the city of its “filthy” gypsy population. As he is struggling to keep his home life and public life and emotions separate, tensions grow higher as the king becomes more paranoid and puts more pressure on Claude to find the leader of the gypsies, Nikolais Quinn. Will Marie soften his heart and help him keep his sanity or will he lose everything in order to appease the king?

Author Khris Pfeifer does very well in The Judge’s Demon, very aptly named, to keep readers hooked and tense in their seats until the very end where they are left wanting more. The author also does excellently in developing the sense of paranoia as well as showing the characters developing madness, and the relationships that are cultivated. As for following the story, it has a very easy narrative that allows the reader to focus on the story itself and discover its hidden secrets. The plot does deal with very serious themes and those themes are handled in an expert manner that brings them to light in a conscious way, one that doesn’t diminish their seriousness, but also doesn’t scare the reader off. I really enjoyed The Judge’s Demon.
