In today’s society, a little bit of kindness goes a long way, and to build kind, safe communities, it is important to teach the next generation about the value of being warm-hearted. In The Kids’ Book of Kindness by author Catherine Stephenson, the definition of kindness is broken down into being compassionate toward yourself, toward others, and the world around you. From listening and offering support to a friend in need to being a good carer of the animals and natural life around you, one can demonstrate extraordinary kindness and positively touch people’s lives.

What I loved about The Kids’ Book of Kindness by Catherine Stephenson was the wide variety of ways that the book provided for readers to put the principles of kindness into action. The book offers several reflection questions about the role of kindness in their lives - what acts of kindness they have received and how these made a positive impact on their life. Additionally, at the end of the book, there are several different interactive activities for young readers to continue engaging with the book. I thought this was an excellent tool to teach the next generation about the value of kindness in an accessible and friendly way. The illustrations by Hiruni Kariyawasam were so beautiful, and they had just the right touch of nostalgia to take me back to my early childhood. Overall, this was such a wonderful read and would be a great addition to anyone's classroom, library, or personal book collection.
