The Lady of the Lighthouse is a historical novel by Terri Greening. The story is set in 1942 and follows the struggles of a young mother and lighthouse keeper named Loralei Lancaster. Loralei has been living a solitary life maintaining the beacon in the lighthouse of Portstown with her young son, Misha, guiding the ships traversing the Great Lakes. Her husband, Devon, is the captain of an iron ore freighter, prone to long voyages at sea. After a naive affair with the infamous pirate Jake Calico, Loralei finds herself seduced by the charms of Andre Sorrento, a spy for the Axis forces trying to gather information on the Great Lakes and the Soo Locks. With Devon trapped by the schemes of his First Mate, Loralei must choose between the wishes of her own heart and her loyalty to her country.

Terri Greening has woven a mesmerizing tale of romance, betrayal, and espionage with this gripping novel that provides thrills galore. The Lady of the Lighthouse is a character-driven drama that sets its hooks in you from the get-go and keeps you glued to the pages until the end. The author has built an immersive setting in Portstown, aptly complemented by a narrative dripping with tension and intrigue. The plot follows both Loralei and Devon as they try to make amends for their mistakes and navigate perilous circumstances to do the right thing. Although at times dark, the story ends on an optimistic note. I found the ending very satisfying, and I think other readers will feel the same way. This book is tailor-made for fans of historical fiction and espionage thrillers. Highly recommended!
