Author Biography

I studied fiction writing at Greenville Technical College and attended writing workshops to help hone my skills. I now have twelve indie published books in circulation. My book, Black Harvest, won the New Apple Book Award for the Mystery category. My first foray into sci fi, The Weapons They Use, and The Shaman, a psychological thriller, have both received 5 stars from Reader’s Favorite, Goodreads and Amazon readers.

After moving to Rincon, GA in 2016, a small town only twenty miles from Savannah, I have found other ways to find inspiration. I love walking, or sitting, in the Spanish moss-draped city squares of Savannah where there are as many story ideas washing over me as ghosts that walk the cobbled streets. When not percolating my next story, my best friends and I crack each other up by holding entire conversations with GIFs.

Kate Porter’s The Last Echo is a sublime dramatization of what happens when love is derailed by the pretension and conceit of parents, riding roughshod over their spoiled son’s quest for happiness. Lisa Hayes becomes the latest victim of this prejudice when she meets and falls in love with David Branson, a young man reluctantly following in the steps of his father, a Senator of some standing. As their relationship evolves, Lisa develops a growing concern that perilous darkness is at work within the Branson family; one that will propel her life into turmoil and place her and those she loves in great danger. In fleeing from this mortal threat, Lisa will run headlong into her future happiness and, even more surprisingly, will become linked with the distant past in a shocking and totally unexpected way. All Lisa needs to concern herself with now is survival; for her and those responsible for the happiness that now engulfs her.

The Last Echo by Kate Porter is a truly gripping book, being well thought out and compiled with clarity and precision that form a very smooth and enjoyable reading experience. The sections dealing with the past were well-managed and did not overburden the main story arc or create confusion in any way. I particularly enjoyed the logic of the story as it unfolded, finding moments like Lisa’s discovery by chance to be much more realistic than other scenarios that may have been utilized. All of the characters were individual, believable and evoked the right empathy, clearly matching reality where people are very rarely black and white. If you are looking for a great read full of emotion, drama, suspense, and love, The Last Echo is for you.
