The Last Four Digits: A Lola Vega Mystery is a private investigator mystery novel written by Julie Leo. Lola's decision to give up practicing law in favor of being a private investigator was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, but it hasn't been the easiest of transitions. She's been working out of her home, eschewing her favorite designer clothes and shoes in favor of more modestly priced items, and eating her meals at home to keep costs down. But it's been nearly a month since she last had a client and she's worried about the rent. When she gets a call from the second of Jack Stone's former wives asking for a consultation, Lola is more than ready to get sleuthing again. The movie star icon had been found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in his Ferrari and there was a suicide note, but Jack's will is missing and there had been definite indications that he and his current wife, Leilani, had been considering a divorce. Linda Gross, Jack's second wife, thinks Jack was murdered and she wants Lola to investigate his death.

Julie Leo's private investigator mystery, The Last Four Digits: A Lola Vega Mystery, is a quirky and clever take on the crime noir genre. Lola's a private eye because she loves sleuthing, and she's willing to take chances to catch her villains, but the image of her trying to drive while applying nail polish and coping with a bee sting lends a definite note of humor to the story that follows. This klutzy and gutsy noir heroine is a joy to follow as she disregards warnings from sinister men in trench coats and travels up and down Southern California's Pacific Coast Highway in search of her prey. Leo's tale is well-plotted and includes plenty of puzzles for the mystery fan to unravel, but she also drops in a few tributes to classic detectives of the past which will equally delight discerning readers. Lola Vega and her two unlikely partners, the dishy Detective Michael Escobar and the psychic Molly O'Reilly, are well-crafted, authentic and believable characters. I'm looking forward to reading about Vega's further investigations. The Last Four Digits is highly recommended.

In The Last Four Digits by Julie Leo, private eye Lola Vega is hired to solve the murder of movie star Jack Stone. As a bonus, her employer would like her to find Stone’s missing will. Lola hardly starts her investigation when her employer also turns up dead. With the help of Stone’s psychic guide and drop dead gorgeous Detective Michael Escobar, Lola turns Los Angeles upside down in search of the killers. Her activity draws the attention of professional killers and, yes…wait for it, circus performers.

Written with a touch of humor, a dash of romance, and a healthy dose of mystery, The Last Four Digits by Julie Leo is filled with interesting twists and amusing turns that keep the main characters on the verge of danger. I like the fact that Lola Vega is a lovely, intelligent woman with a lot of career options, but she chooses to be a private detective; not because it will make her rich or because she isn’t qualified to do anything else, but because of the adventure aspect of the job. I adored Molly, the quirky psychic who can eat like teenage boy during a growth spurt when she is nervous, and tends to go with the flow no matter what is happening around her.

Julie Leo does a remarkably professional job of writing dynamic characters and creative plot points. Her dialogue is believable and highly entertaining. The situations the characters get into border on unrealistic at times, but are still entertaining. I enjoyed the story from beginning to end, and I look forward to reading more from this talented writer.

The Last Four Digits by Julie Leo is an action packed mystery. Lola Vega, an ex-attorney turned detective, is investigating the suspicious suicide of actor Jack Stone. Lola has her work cut out for her because Stone has several ex-wives she must talk to, plus there's a missing will. Lola teams up with psychic Molly O’Reilly and attempts to solve Stone’s death, all the while avoiding the mafia and her attraction to Detective Michael Escobar.

Julie Leo did a good job on this book. In The Last Four Digits there is something for everyone; guns, romance, explosions and murder. There also is more than one mystery to solve. I honestly was not able to solve any of them. The ending was a huge shock to me and there was no way that I would have been able to figure it out beforehand. Lola Vega is a likeable character that I would like to see more of in the future. She is smart, fashionable, and is always getting into trouble. However, my favorite character in the book was Molly. She was funny and very unpredictable. I thought her 'no parking' sign was hilarious. Molly and Lola worked well together.

I enjoyed reading this book and hope to read more of Lola’s adventures in the future. This book is the first in the Lola Vega series. If you like action packed murder mysteries, then this book is for you.
