The Last Rocketship: A Reya & Lux Space Adventure by R.K. Phayre follows siblings Reya and Lux as they try to escape from Earth before it’s completely destroyed. Their plan is simple—get on a rocket and reunite with their parents on a new planet. But things don’t go as expected, and they quickly realize their ship isn’t heading where it’s supposed to be going. What follows is a wild mix of survival, mystery, and tough choices as they try to figure out what’s really going on. Phayre does a great job of making their journey feel intense and emotional, showing not just the danger they’re in but also what it’s like for two teens to face the unknown with everything they love on the line. It’s not just about the end of their world—it’s about what comes next and whether they’re ready for it.

R.K. Phayre’s worldbuilding makes everything feel real, even with all the sci-fi elements. There’s a nice balance between the science of space travel and the emotions of two siblings just trying to stick together. Their relationship feels completely natural—no forced drama, just two youngsters who care about each other and don’t always agree but are in this together. The tension never lets up, making it hard to put the book down, but at the same time, you get to know these characters and feel what they’re going through. I was completely pulled into their journey, feeling their fear, excitement, and hope as if I were right there with them. Beyond the action, the book hits on some deeper themes about survival, hope, and what it means to be human. Overall, The Last Rocketship is a highly recommended read for those who like sci-fi with strong characters and a lot of heart.
