A little blue monkey makes himself comfortable in the jungle, a place he has come to call his home. He has no memory of being part of a family, and as he has grown older, he has slowly learned to enjoy his own company. All of that changes one fine day when an ant, who just so happens to share the same space with the monkey, asks him if he has any friends. This perfectly innocent conversation stirs in the monkey a longing to experience the feeling the ant talks about. He sets off on an adventure to find a friend like him. Only time will tell if he succeeds in his quest in Danica Desoky's The Lonely Little Monkey.

Danica Desoky shines a light on making the best of the situations life throws at you in The Lonely Little Monkey. She highlights the little monkey's independence by explaining how he came to be by himself, an unusual trait for primates. The author uses a mix of detailed descriptions of the animals' physical features and bright, unconventional colors in her illustrations, which will immediately catch the attention of young readers. Two striking examples are the blue monkey and some of the trees. The dialogue is straightforward, subtly highlighting the ease with which the animals strike up a conversation, a manner young readers will be encouraged to mimic. Desoky's delivery is a classic example of how best to pass along life lessons to young minds through subtle questions that encourage them to reflect on their choices. I enjoyed reading this fascinating book.
