Canadian citizens Riley and Jake Marshall made a yearly trip to Jake’s parents’ winter home in Florida. The Marshalls were affluent and well-known. While the couple was returning from their latest trip, the car developed a fault after encountering a storm. Jake drove into a gas station and called the Mercedes roadside help for car repair. Things went south because a flatbed showed up under the guise of taking them to the workshop, but it wasn’t to be. The driver kidnapped them. Their families panicked and contacted the police but stepped in when things stalled. Why did law enforcement stall? Were the police officers connected to the kidnapping? Were family members involved in the couple’s disappearance? Was someone hiding a secret? Find out in The Lowlands by Laurel Martin.
The Lowlands by Laurel Martin is a captivating thriller that revolves around love, loyalty, kindness, and life lessons. The novel had a brilliant plot and a unique storyline that I loved. I also enjoyed the character development and had some favorites. There were lots of lessons to pick from this book that reflected everyday occurrences. We must show kindness even when it’s inconvenient because we don’t know what nature has in store for us. Mack was my favorite character in this novel. Wendy and Rob were angels who reiterated that we must do good even if we won’t benefit from our deed. Your kin might benefit from it. Our universe has a way of settling everyone. The Lowlands also shed light on the corruption in law enforcement and how many people are paying for crimes they didn’t commit. I felt like Nancy and her brother deserved jail terms. I loved Laurel’s “easy to follow” writing style and the satisfying ending. Thank you for a beautiful book.
