The Magic Water (Chapter book for ages 9 -12) by Roderick J. Robison is a magical story with water as the main character. Travis Macgregor paid no attention to the weather that day when he went down to the river. With his preoccupied thoughts, he fails to notice the storm clouds. When the rains come, he finds a cave to wait till the storm passes. There is a pool of water inside the cave. The turning point of the story begins from there. Travis finds his world turning upside down because of water.
The story has an engaging theme for children. The author has taken something we use every day and made a magical story out of it which will appeal to any child. The narration and descriptions are delightful. It is a very creative concept to weave a story out of a simple thing like water. There is always a feeling of cleansing and spirituality attached to water. The story takes a turn after Travis dips his cut index finger into the water inside the cave. The day-to-day life of Travis is presented in a manner so that any child can relate to it.
The magic water, as the author puts it, plays an important role in the story. It is a story which children will find appealing. The story of Travis will make an interesting read for all kids who like adventures and magic in their lives. The author has sketched all the characters around Travis and his mom neatly, so that they fit into his daily routine effortlessly.
