The Marseille Millionaire by Kaya Quinsey Holt is, as the subtitle says, 'a delightfully sweet romance in the south of France.' Elise Laird is ambitious and not only as a realtor. She has just sold a French multimillionaire’s home in Ashfield, USA, for the eye-watering sum of $4.2 million and, delighted with the sale, he’s just recommended her to a friend of his in France. Luc Dubonier, a successful business tycoon, is looking to invest in Ashfield and, thrilled with Elise’s sales pitch, he asks her to sell his home in Marseille – for $88 million. Arriving in France, Elise is about to learn that there is far more to Luc than you see. Selling the house will net her more commission than she would earn in a lifetime but when she finds out why he is selling, she has a tough decision to make – the money or her heart. Falling hard for Luc, Elise needs to decide if the commission is worth more to her than a chance at real love.
The Marseille Millionaire by Kaya Quinsey Holt is a sweet story. The title put me in mind of an old Harlequin or Mills & Boon story but when you read it, it’s a head-on collision between that and chick lit and it works wonderfully well. Kaya has penned an amazing story, easy to read and descriptive in a way that transports you right into the events. It is a well-paced story, with fabulous characters that are developed realistically, allowing you to get to know them as real people. There were a couple of subplots that were equally as good as the main one, all tying together in one neat package. It’s a proper page-turner, a great read for a cold winter afternoon, drifting off to another world. Great story, I really enjoyed it – it’s a treat to read such a well-written book in this genre.
