The Meeting Place by Ruth Rosenhek unfolds in 2028 in an Australian community being infiltrated by government officials and robot guards in response to a deadly viral outbreak affecting its residents. Shockingly, community members are being rounded up like cattle and herded into quarantine facilities. Since 2022, Australia has fallen prey to catastrophic events like droughts, bushfires, powerful rainfalls, flash floods, insufficient resources, plagues, and pandemics. This tale follows the heartfelt journeys of three friends: Gale (a woman experiencing gender dysphoria), Sara (a self-proclaimed survivalist), and Lis (a mother of two teens), who promise to regroup at their secluded Meeting Place if their community ever becomes an unsafe environment. Unfortunately, they all undergo separate trials and disparate journeys. Will Gale, Sara, and Lis ever reunite?
