The Mighty Brisbrom by Robert S. Buck is about two children, Katie and Jason, who go for a walk in the White Mountains of NH. They discover something there which will change their lives forever. They come across the only known dwelling of The Mighty Brisbrom, a magical humanoid species.
It's an amazing story woven with magic, excitement, and adventure. The children meeting the Mighty Brisbrom is the highlight of the story as well as the theme. The author's creativity and imaginary skills are on full display while reading about this fictitious and magical creature. The character has been etched well; it is so powerful and strong, it can fascinate any child or, for that matter, any reader. Reading the description of the Brisbrom and everything about them is pleasurable.
I love the magic and whimsy of the story and along with it, adventure is a big boost. Adventure stories are always very popular and children are really keen to read them. It is easy to relate to the characters of Katie and Jason and I am sure that every child who reads this book must have wanted to be in their shoes and meet the Brisbrom.
Creating magical and unusual characters requires a lot of skill and imagination. There should be a child-like enthusiasm in the mind of the author to make the characters and the story appeal to the child. This book is very visual with some wonderful imagery which points to the craftsmanship of the writer.
