Author Biography

I retired in 2019. I was formerly a financial advisor, a CLU, a ChFC, and a CFP®. I had never written a book before, but I had published articles on financial planning and related topics in Barron’s, Forbes, Investopedia, and others.

One day, after a round of golf, I was sitting in my golf cart on a pathway. It was a strange and beautiful day. For some reason, I asked myself a question—and the answer to that question set me on a journey of self-discovery that I didn’t even realize I had begun. It took a while for me to see it.

As a result, I underwent a fabulous transformation, at age 68, and I saw it as a great gift—one I had to share. I’ve shared it by writing my book.

Roger Shorr presents a method for achieving the titular Near Perfect Body (NPB) through mental reconditioning and habit transformation, focusing on reshaping attitudes toward food, exercise, and self-image. His approach centers around six key actions: a determined mindset, reprogramming mental frameworks, embracing nutritious eating, engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining progress, and practicing self-awareness. Shorr introduces techniques like "Hunger Jujutsu" and "Exercise Jujutsu," which incorporate discipline and strategy to manage cravings and exercise. He speaks on the importance of mindfulness, consistent journaling, and self-assessment in achieving long-term success. Shorr's method teaches the replacement of unhealthy behaviors with constructive practices, building on internal motivation, and developing a positive mental outlook to support physical change and a balanced lifestyle.

Roger Shorr’s The Near Perfect Body: And the Pathway to Yours is a practical guide that merges mental discipline with physical fitness, offering a way to reshape the body and our mindset. The author’s clear and accessible writing breaks down more complicated concepts, making them actionable for readers of any fitness level. Shorr’s systematic approach, which combines structured journaling, exercise routines, and affirmations, serves as a valuable tool in implementing lasting change. The Near Perfect Body by Roger Shorr is a well-written book aimed at promoting wellness in health and diet to be physically fit. Shorr had been a victim of Symptom Solution Syndrome for most of his life, a situation where he focused on trying to cure symptoms rather than the real problem. However, at age 68, Shorr adopted actions that were responsible for his near-perfect body, which included embracing, being consistent, and being optimistic. While relating the brain and mind to a computer, Shorr explains that habits are programmed into our brains and presented in our minds through learning and repetition. To develop new habits, there is a need for reprogramming to replace old habits. This is essential for both diet and achieving fitness goals.

Roger Shorr's story is both inspiring and a call to action, particularly to me, in maintaining a healthy diet and dealing with junk food. Shorr proves himself to be an exceptional storyteller and a talented writer. This is evident in the concise, engaging, and easy-to-comprehend writing style. I read this book easily from start to finish, as his points are very clear and relatable. This book has a natural pace, and every aspect of Shorr's story is connected. I learned so much that I never knew before, especially from the six pillars of Exercise Jujutsu. I also loved the inspiring quotes featured in this book. I recommend The Near Perfect Body by Roger Shorr to anyone interested in being physically fit, regardless of the person's age.
