TJ Relk’s The Network Apostate is the prequel to Sins of the Saviors, following Jane Veristo's haunting journal that she began after the unnecessary death of her brother, David. In her journal, Jane grapples with persecution and the crushing weight of lies perpetuated by the Goliath Network, which rose to power in the guise of working for the greater good but instead incited wars that led to countless deaths. The Network gradually eroded education, literature, and freedom of speech. By using advanced technology, they made the population more gullible and disillusioned. Unlike many others, Jane saw through their deception. Defying the oppressive regime, she secretly hid books and distributed them to children in her neighborhood, protested over the capture of protected lands, and began to devise a plan to expose the Network’s lies. However, she recognized that without the right connections or power, she couldn't succeed alone.
Every story has a beginning, shaped by the choices we make in the face of adversity. Jane Veristo's journey exemplifies resilience and resistance, demonstrating how the courage to stand up against a powerful oppressor can inspire others to seek the truth and reclaim their freedom. The story is structured as Jane’s journal, exploring her daily struggles against the Network’s oppression and her emotional turmoil from losing her brother. The engaging narration sets a captivating foundation for the events that unfold in Sins of the Saviors. Fans of the series will find valuable insights as this prequel deepens the character of Jane Veristo and illuminates the rise of the Goliath Network. The Network Apostate is a vital addition to the series and a must-read for anyone who appreciates dystopian stories centered on resilience and the fight for freedom.
