The Noble Rebellion by Joshua G. Fensterstock is a spellbinding political thriller with strong hints of terrorism. While the arrogant President Cole delivers his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, a terrorist dubbed "the Sultan” orchestrates one of the most devastating attacks on US soil, murders those attending the president’s speech on national TV, and then declares the United States a new caliphate with stringent rules. While the military and government surrender to the new leadership, one patriot refuses to accept the Islamic States of America. He is Congressman Max Noble. Follow him on an adventure to redeem his country from the clutches of terror. Aided by Dalton and Armstrong, Max creates a militia led by John Sharpe, but do they have what it takes to defeat the enemy?
This is a novel with strong and relevant themes and I particularly liked the way the author develops the theme of terrorism fueled by religious fanaticism and lunacy. The characters are rock solid and Max comes across as deeply flawed and genuine, a man passionate about freedom. But can he sell his ideas of freedom to a people that are being manipulated? The conflict is strong and intense and the action it generates moves with surprising speed. From the brief description one may get the feeling that the plot structure is pretty straightforward, but it is not. The plot is cleverly done and it contains twists and turns that are nerve-wracking, featuring characters that are sophisticated, imagined with deep emotional and psychological layers. The Noble Rebellion is engaging and Joshua G. Fensterstock’s writing is cinematic. This is a real treat for fans of terrorist thrillers, and a strong sense of humor and suspense make this book an exciting read.
